Iran has sent another batch of humanitarian aid to Syria's Palestinian refugees. It is intended for the Yarmouk camp, which Syrian rebels took control of earlier this week.
An initial shipment of blankets, 36 tons of food, medicine and ambulances arrived at the Damascus airport on Wednesday morning, according to Iran’s ambassador to Syria. The aid was delivered to the Red Crescent organization officials in the Yarmouk refugee camp for distribution among the Palestinians.
Yarmouk, a Palestinian district with 130,000 refugees near the center of Damascus, has become one of the latest battlefields for Syrian rebels and a target for Assad’s artillery.
The ambassador said the fighting between Syrian rebels and pro-Syrian Palestinian paramilitary forces is still going on. UN statistics show that Syria is home to 486,000 Palestinian refugees, living in nine official and three unofficial camps.
