China's Beidou navigation system is to start offering positioning and navigation service by the end of this year. And the State Council Information Office is right now holding a news conference to discuss the development of the system and details of its positioning service. Now let’s go live to the conference hall.
The Beidou navigation system, also known as Compass, will offer free civilian services over the Asia-Pacific region very soon.
The system has used in transportation, weather forecasting, marine fisheries, hydrological monitoring, and mapping.
Beidou managers say the network will provide positioning services with an accuracy of 10 meters, or about 33 feet. Speed estimates are within less than one foot per second, and time measurements within 10 nanoseconds.
China has launched six Beidou satellites in 2012, placing four craft in medium Earth orbit about 13,000 miles high and two geostationary orbit platforms in space.
