Former US president George H.W. Bush has been put in intensive care after a fever he was suffering got worse. The illness kept him at hospital over Christmas.
The 88-year-old Bush has been in intensive care since Sunday and is now on a liquids-only diet. He had been hospitalized for about a month with bronchitis. His spokesman Jim McGrath, who said earlier the fever had gone away, corrected himself, and said the fever had actually gone up in the previous day or two.
He called it a stubborn fever that won’t go away. Doctors at Methodist Hospital in Houston, where Bush was treated, have run tests, but still haven’t nailed down a cause.
