The run up to the vote saw widespread street protests against the constitution, with many arguing that it will usher in Islamic rule in Egypt and restrict freedoms. But the final result was very close to what was predicted by President Morsi’s Muslim Brotherhood party.
Many Egyptians have welcomed the arrival of the new constitution, but protesters in Cairo's Tahrir Square have vowed to continue their fight.
Egyptian people said, "The majority of voters said ’yes’. Whether these results were rigged or not, we have to accept them. But the regime also has to achieve the stability that they’ve promised us."
Egyptian people said, "The revolution continues and the constitution does not exist. The constitution must be acceptable to all the people, not cause division among the people of Egypt."
