Chinese author Mo Yan has received his Nobel Prize for Literature in the Swedish capital Stockholm.
Mo Yan is the first Chinese person still living in China to win the prize for literature. Mo appeared at the award ceremony wearing a tuxedo, and not the traditional Chinese outfit he had suggested he might wear.
After the award ceremony, Mo Yan will also attend a banquet and is expected to deliver a speech. The Chinese author, described himself as a storyteller in a lecture at the Swedish Academy on Friday afternoon. The Nobel laureate said it is telling stories that earned him the prize.
Mo Yan is there with his wife and daughter, as well as nine interpreters. During the past few days in Sweden, Mo Yan met readers, gave speeches, held news conferences, and attended an exhibition of the movie "Red Sorghum". The Swedish Academy announced in October that Mo Yan had won the prize for his “hallucinatory realism" that "merges folk tales, history and the contemporary."
