About 10,000 people, including health workers, have protested against Spain's health care austerity in downtown Madrid.
Many of the rally dressed in white, and began marching early Sunday, from four large hospitals on the outskirts of the capital to converge on central Puerta del Sol square. They have been angered by austerity measures, including budget cuts and plans to partly privatize some of Spain’s national health care service.

Some protesters said they were outraged by Madrid regional government’s plans to convert a large hospital specialising in rare and infectious diseases into a home for old people and sell it.
The protesters said their public health service was not for sale.
