Demonstrators have gathered outside Japan’s parliament to demand that the government abandon nuclear power, following the Fukushima disaster in 2011.
Demonstrators in Tokyo waved banners and chanted anti-nuclear slogans. The rally on Sunday was organised by the "Coalition Against Nukes". A total of 10, 000 protesters gathered in nine different locations, including outside the Prime Minister’s office, the parliamentary building and other government ministries to call for an end to nuclear power in Japan.
After the Fukushima disaster, all fifty of Japan’s working reactors were gradually turned off. Prior to the disaster, nuclear power provided 30 percent of Japan’s electricity.
