Japanese foreign minister Koichiro Gemba has failed to receive support from Britain regarding the Diaoyu Islands dispute, mirroring his earlier trip to France.
During Gemba’s meeting with British Foreign Secretary William Hague on Wednesday, Japanese reporters weren’t given permission to cover the event. The meeting kept a low profile, with no press conference being held after the talks.
Gemba on Tuesday started a 3-nation tour to France, Britain and Germany, in hopes of lobbying the three western nations to support its claims over Diaoyu Islands. But Britain’s Foreign Office says it won’t take a stance on the issue.
Meanwhile, a British expert on international issues says Gemba’s visit may not be what he had expected.
