Turkey's Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad have both agreed to back Lakhdar Brahimi's proposal.
They are also open to forming a tri-lateral group including either Egypt, Saudi Arabia or Russia, to give the call for the ceasefire more weight.
Erdogan said, "I spoke to Ahmadinejad about this today. He, too, said the proposal was right on target, that it would be the right thing to do. He said he would make a statement to this effect. He also asked that Turkey would simultaneously announce its support for the proposal. In fact, we said that if the key players - Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Russia - those in the region that have pull, make the call for a ceasefire together, it would be even better."
