Two time champion Andy Murray met World No. 2 Novak Djokovic in the final of Shanghai Masters. Djokovic, who lost to Murray in the epic final of US Open to give the Scot his first ever Grand Slam title, looked to get revenge in Shanghai. The match proved to be another classic clash.
Djokovic got off to a bright start, breaking the Scot to take the lead, but Murray broke back and the tussle was on. In the 11th game of the opening set, Murray fended off a torrent of shots from the Serb, whose reply is wide, and the Brit is on top 6-5. Djokovic is inflamed. and takes it out on his racket.
Murray gained the upper hand and went on to close out the set 7-5 after another long rally.

Murray, who broke Djokovic again in the second set, was leading 5-4 and had one hand on the trophy he’s won twice previously. However, the Serb unleashed a full arsenal of shots and was still a force to be contained. Another seasaw rally featured some tantalizing tennis, thrilling the spectators. Djokovic was leaving no stone unturned. The former world number one held on to win the point and the tide was turning.
But Murray had Djokovic on the ropes again with the Scot forcing the tiebreak.
The battle in the tiebreak was tormenting for all. Both played high-voltage, top class tennis, breaking back and forth. Djokovic gradually taking control in the late stages after Murray squandered several championship points.

The World No. 2 reeled off several crucial winners including this set winning volley. 13-11, Djokovic wins the set and it’s off to a decider.
Djokovic maintained his fierce composure in the decider when Murray seemingly faltered, unforced errors creeping into his game.
Djokovic, looking to win back-to-back titles in China following victory in Beijing last week, held his nerve to close out the decider after breaking the Brit. A crisp 6-3 third set win would earn him champion of the Shanghai Masters as well as 1000 points in the world rankings as the Serb continues to mount pressure on the World No. 1 Roger Federer.
