Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda has held talks with US senator Daniel Inouye in Tokyo, saying that he hopes for closer coordination with the United States in addressing issues in East Asia.
Noda said that Japan intends to deal with the "somewhat difficult" issues in a level-headed way and from a broad perspective. Inouye responded that he will make full efforts to further strengthen Japan-US ties as it is important for the United States as well.
The US senator told reporters after the meeting that the bilateral relationship "remains very strong." Noda and Inouye also exchanged views on the current situation in the Asia-Pacific region, including the Diaoyu Islands dispute.
They also discussed security cooperation, including the deployment of MV-22 Ospreys at the US Marine Corps’ Futenma Air Station in Okinawa Prefecture.
