The 14-year-old girl who was shot by a Taliban gunman for advocating education for girls has been taken to Pakistan’s top military hospital for treatment. A team of surgeons earlier removed a bullet from her neck in another military hospital in Peshawar.
She was airlifted to the hospital in the garrison city of Rawal-pindi for further treatment. Doctors said that she is gradually improving and the next seven days are very crucial. They said there is a 70 percent chance of her survival. The doctors have also dropped the plan to send her abroad for treatment in view of the improvement of her condition.
She was shot in the head and neck as she and two of her friends were returning from school. The Taliban has claimed responsibility for the attack, accusing the girl of involvement in what it called ’anti-Islam and anti Taliban propaganda ’.
