The F-1 circuit will race under the lights at the Marina Bay Circuit for the Singapore Grand Prix on Sunday night. And it will be Lewis Hamilton who will be first on the grid.
Final qualifying for the 14th round of this year’s Formula One World Championship got underway in Singapore. Ferrari pilot Fernando Alonso began the weekend as the man to catch in the driver standings, with a 37-point advantage over Lewis Hamilton.
On a roll: Hamilton (c) claimed his third pole in four races in Singapore.
Paul di Resta enjoyed another impressive qualifying performance in the Force India car and clocked a best time in qualifying session three and will start from the third row in sixth place.
Jenson Button qualified in fourth place for McLaren - with his best offering of the day and good enough to secure a second row start after another solid performance behind the wheel of the McLaren.
Two-time defending champion Sebastian Vettel, who has only a single race win to his credit all season, is a disappointing fourth in the points. He will line up against his perennial title rival Button on the grid.
Pastor Maldonado again impressed in the improving Williams machine with the second-fastest time of the day. His fine, flying lap was a surprise to many.
But pole position belonged to former champion Lewis Hamilton. The British McLaren driver clocked the fastest time of the day - to again underline the recent return to form for the UK-based team.
Lewis Hamilton, Pole Sitter for Singapore Grand Prix, said, "The guys have done a fantastic job all week and to come here with some small things that have improved from the last race - obviously, we have high down-force here so we were not sure where we would turn out against the others. But, obviously, Sebastian (Vettel) was incredibly fast through most of the sessions, I am not sure what happened there at the end. Nevertheless, we are very, very happy that I was able to pull that time out, really a great lap and I am very happy with it."
Lewis Hamilton claimed his fifth pole position of the season in Singapore Grand Prix
qualifying to strengthen his bid for a second world title.
